What this is
Public context, not private analytics
YouTube Golf Index compares public metadata across creators. It is designed to reveal ecosystem patterns that are difficult to see one channel at a time.
It is not a replacement for creators’ private YouTube Analytics. It cannot see impressions, click-through rate, watch time, retention, audience composition, revenue, or traffic sources.
Sources and confidence
Public metadata
Channel and video metadata comes from YouTube Data API v3. Counts reflect the latest local capture, not real-time values.
Human-reviewed labels
Human collaboration decisions take precedence when available. Earlier manual annotations are next in the resolution order.
Model-assisted labels
Where no human decision exists, the latest successful metadata-only model prediction is used and identified as model-assisted.
Methodology and caveats
Read the signals with their limits
Views have different ages
Current views are observed at capture time, so older videos have had longer to accumulate views. Collaboration comparisons require videos to be at least 30 days old, but residual age differences remain.
Shorts are candidates, not definitive classifications
The public API does not expose a definitive Shorts flag. We exclude videos of three minutes or less or videos whose title, description, or tags contain #shorts. We call them “Shorts candidates” throughout.
Associations are non-causal
Collaborations are not randomly assigned. Topic, timing, format, multiple guests, and publication age can all affect views. The relative-view proxy is descriptive and must not be interpreted as a creator’s added value.
Creator-relative performance
A video’s relative-view proxy is its current views divided by the median current views of that creator’s preceding 10 non-Shorts-candidate uploads. A value of 1.2 means 20% above that preceding baseline.
